Kashmir day or Kashmir solidarity day (یوم یکجحتی کشمیر in urdu) is a
national holiday in Pakistan and also observed by Kashmiris in Azad
Kashmir and all over the world on feb 5 each year.Kashmir Day was first
proposed by the Jamaat-e-Islami party in Pakistan in 1990.
Kashmir day is observed in Pakistan to express solidarity and support and unity with the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir .It also honors the sacrifices of Kashmiris who have martyred in struggle for freedom of Kashmir.The day often marks unrest in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
Kashmir Day is a public holiday in Pakistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir.
Government offices (federal and provincial), banks, educational
institutions and businesses remain closed.Major roads and streets remain
blocked because of Kashmir Day parades and processions.
The day is marked by public processions, special prayers in Masjid for the liberation of Kashmir and protests that are carried out against the Indian oppression of Kashmir.Solidarity rallies are held in Azad Kashmir .Indian Occupied Kashmir,Pakistan and other parts of world by Kashmiris.
Human chain on all major routes leading to Azad Kashmir from Pakistan is made.
People stand in rows with their hands clasped forming a human chain on
all major crossings into Azad Kashmir from Pakistan. This symbolizes
unity and solidarity to reassure Kashmiris that they are not alone in
their struggle for freedom.
On this day special cultural programs and festivals are also held to promote Kashmiri culture and tradition.News and entertainment channels air special programs, talk shows, dramas and Kashmiri songs about the oppression and brutalities suffered by Kashmiris over the years.
People and Govt. of Pakistan are clear that let Kashmiri
decide how and with whom they wanna live either with Pakistan,India or as a Free New state.Let them decide.
On Kashmir Solidarity Day, the prime minister said, “Pakistan reminds the international community of its responsibilities in the matter and urges it to fulfill its promise made with the people of Jammu and Kashmir 68 years ago."
He said the Government and the people of Pakistan reiterate their continued and steadfast political, moral and diplomatic support to the people of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in their heroic struggle for their inalienable right to self-determination.
