First edition of Pakistan Super League started from feb 4,2016 and ended on feb
23,2016 in Dubai. PSL got media attention from all over the world. Before start
of PSL every one was discussing in Pakistan that will it be successful,
specially when it is not playing on Pakistani grounds. Lets see what were the
reasons that make people unsure about PSL success before its start and how much
PSL management solved it.
Will superstars of other countries play in PSL?
I remember that everyone was asking before players list publically presented by
PCB that which big player will be in action in PSL. There were media reports
that Chris Gayle is ready to play PSL and after this news there was a big
debate on this news. And same when other players name come to media everyone
was keen to know that is it true or not! On dec,2015 PCB presented the list of
players for drafting.
MCL and PSL schedule clash
There was a concern that MCL (Masters Champion League) and PSL had schedule
clash and MCL was also being played in Dubai and Sharjah. But before PSL start,
media reported that people in Dubai are taking more interest in PSL, and it
proved how croud came in large number for PSL.
Its not in Pakistan
There were critics like ex Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan who said that it
should be in Pakistan if not then postpond this idea because croud will not
come.But whole world saw that croud came in large number specially in playoffs
were sold out and tickets of final were sold out two days before final.
Media Attention
There was
a concern that will media pay attention to PSL. And was clear before drafting
that in Pakistan PSL will get attention of PSL hugely. But I don’t think that
anyone know that it will get attention in very hugely. There was a surprise
stat that match between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings get more ratings
than Pakistan vs India match in world cup 2015.
Will it produce quality cricketers
for Pakistan?
PSL produced very good cricketers like all rounder of Quetta Gladiators
M.Nawaz, Peshawar Zalmi’s left arm spinner M.Asghar, Islamabad United’s
allrounder Rauman Raees.
Will top performers part of Pakistani squad for Asia cup and T20 World Cup?
PCB selected allrounder M.Nnawaz, all rounder Rauman Raees, Opener Sharjeel
Khan and Right arm fast bowler M.Sami for Asia cup and T20 World cup on the
performance in PSL.
Now
its clear that PCB specially PSL management did very good job and PSL was a
superhit. But few questions are remain unanswered like
- When PSL will play on Pakistani grounds?
- Why Low scoring matches?·
Suggetions:
PSL produced Left arm spinner and allrounder but not
produced any new right arm offspinner/legspinner ,right arm fast bowler or a
new batsman so PCB should think that how they can make sure that next edition produce that too.
